How Omega-3’s Can Benefit Multiple Sclerosis Patients

Estimated Reading Time: 3 minutes

Multiple Sclerosis can be a frustrating and confusing health condition for many, especially when first diagnosed. However, even those who have had MS for years may still be searching for a dietary miracle or supplement that offers amazing health benefits and pain relief for their situation. Omega-3s for MS are hugely beneficial for their anti-inflammatory properties, and they’re incredibly easy to get ahold of.

In recent years, the important role of Omega-3 fatty acids has gained steam in the MS community. At first glance, Omega-3s and the vast benefit they offer MS patients may not seem different from other vitamins or supplements – therefore we decided to break down the efficacy and benefits of Omega-3s and green lipped mussel supplements, the best natural nutritional supplements for MS patients.

What are Omega-3 fatty acids?

The first thing to note is that Omega-3 fatty acids often get a bad rap. Because they are a “fatty acid”, it’s easy to write them off as something that should be avoided.

Quite the opposite is true, in fact. Omega-3s are beneficial for multiple sclerosis because they reduce inflammation in the body and rarely produce side effects. They act much differently than trans fats and saturated fats, which clog arteries and stick around in unwanted places. Omega-3s benefit the health system and help keep your joints and body functioning properly.

The body is unable to produce Omega-3s on its own and needs to take them in from outside sources such as food and supplements. Supplements like GLX3 increase the levels of “good” HDL cholesterol and help the brain function at a higher level.

Two main active ingredients in Omega-3s are extremely beneficial: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). If you’ve ever had issues with joint pain and inflammation, your doctor may have mentioned the positive effects that superfoods like New Zealand Green Lipped Mussel Oil-an enhanced version of green lipped mussel extract-can have. The oil derives from green lipped mussels (perna canaliculus ). GLX3 is a leading purveyor of Green Lipped Mussel Oil, and blending it with New Zealand Olive Oil and Vitamin E Oil to optimize the benefits of Omega-3s for MS. GLM oil is considered a rich source of Omega-3s and a more effective form than green lipped mussel powder or fish oil.

Since multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory disorder which causes progressive damage to the central nervous system, scientists have long explored the hypothesis that omega-3 fatty acids may somehow impede the progression and/or severity of the disease.

How can I get Omega-3s to Treat Multiple Scleroris?

There are a number of places to get Omega-3s on a regular basis. Let’s take a look at a few of them:

  • Oily fish like salmon, krill, and Green Lipped Mussels are great sources of omega-3. Flaxseeds and flaxseed oil
  • Nuts including almonds, walnuts, and others.
  • Avocados, guacamole, and olive oil.
  • Kale, collard or mustard greens, spinach, and other dark, leafy greens.
  • Supplements such as GLX3. Be sure to find a high quality, Green Lipped Mussel Oil supplement with proven benefits instead of the cheapest one at the end of the aisle. Our website describes how and why to purchase GLX3 as your primary source of Omega-3s for MS.

How should I choose a source of Omega-3s?

There are a number of ways to add Omega-3s into your diet. A few of them we’ve covered in this article, but certainly not all. In general, it helps to find a supplement or food with quality ingredients and that isn’t stuffed full of additives. Beyond the source of the Omega-3s, other ingredients should serve a purpose and be all-natural. For example, in GLX3, we use New Zealand Olive Oil which also is high in Omega-3 fatty acids, along with all-natural Vitamin E oil.

Find a company you trust and buy from them. Peruse their website, see what others are saying, and trust your general vibe. Do they seem proud of their products? Don’t appear to be hiding anything? These are good signs!

Good companies are upfront about what they use in their line and don’t shy away from alerting customers about allergens or other issues that they should consider before taking.

Omega-3s for Multiple Scleroris: Bringing it all together

What you may hear from skeptics is that Omega 3s don’t actually have a direct impact on Multiple Sclerosis. The best way to look at this argument is from the standpoint of a healthy diet and overall healthy lifestyle. Omega-3s, like those found in New Zealand Green Lipped Mussel Oil, can help a person reduce joint pain and inflammation, receive adequate levels of EPA and DHA as we discussed earlier, and offer assistance to brain power and functionality.

As always, consult your physician for medical advice.

A healthy diet and lifestyle can be incredibly beneficial to MS patients, as such with non-MS patients. A quick daily supplement is a simple, recurring, and effective way to be sure you’re taking a sufficient level of Omega-3s. We encourage you to browse through our Education section and learn more about the wonderful benefits of GLX3 and why choosing a sustainable Omega-3 supplement can play a big role in whole body health.
